Elizabeth Colón, President of Metaphrasis Language & Cultural Solutions, was sworn in today as the first Latina to serve as President for the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Chicago’s Chapter.
“I am excited to lead this chapter with our Executive Director, Melissa Kline Lagowski, and our board members. My heart is full of appreciation for everyone that reached out, for those joining the virtual installation and for all the positive and uplifting messages”, she said.
As the first Latina President, she has chosen Together and Stronger as the focus for the 2020-2021 year. “The pandemic and the social injustices we have experienced this year have torn apart our business communities and as an organization, we have a responsibility to empower our members and propel them in their businesses at whatever stage they are in. I believe that by rising together we become stronger”.
A few of her goals for the upcoming year is to address the diversity and welcome women of color into the organization, maintain the Chicago Chapter as the #1 chapter in the USA, and create programs that are relevant to business owners at any stage of their business.
Founded in 1975, NAWBO is the unified voice of America’s more than 10 million women-owned businesses representing the fastest-growing segment of the economy.
NAWBO is the only dues-based organization representing the interests of all women entrepreneurs across all industries. NAWBO develops programs that help navigate women entrepreneurs through the various stages of their business growth.
For Chicago-area women business owners who lead highly competitive, sustainable, profitable businesses, NAWBO Chicago is an influential circle of thought leaders who stand together through servant leadership and long-term relationship building that empowers members to grow their businesses confidently.
